  • The manufacturer's environment : other manufacturers, suppliers, Supplemental Type Certificate holders, operators...
  • EASA organisation approval context :
    • Introduction to DOA and POA concepts;
    • Differences with models based on individual representatives (Ex: Federal Aviation Administration)

How to initially assess safety risks and mitigate them during development phase ?

  • At Manufacturer organisation level :
    • Analysis of the risks inherent to the manufacturer's organisation during the aircraft development phase,
    • Certification activities as mitigation means.
  • At aircraft/systems design level: Introduction to CS25.1309 as an example of predictive risk management method :
    • Risk analysis and assessment tools,
    • HF in design phase.

How to maintain safety risks at acceptable level and proactively improve safety when an aircraft is in service ?

  • Process approach to aircraft series phase, including management of change at organisation level and aircraft design and production levels,
  • Reminder on Continued Airworthiness regulatory context,
  • Building an efficient system for safety data collection and for safety data analysis at manufacturer level,
  • Analysis of production/manufacturing events,
  • Aircraft product safety Enhancement :
    • Why going beyond airworthiness risk assessment ?
    • How to identify and analyse aircraft product safety issues ?
    • How to develop an action plan for aircraft safety enhancement ?

Aircraft Safety Case

  • Based on real examples, addressing both the organisation and the aircraft products, students will :
    • study hazards
    • build scenarios
    • decide on additional reviews, investigations, tests... to be launched
    • propose safety actions to mitigate the risks
    • propose indicators to monitor the performance of the decided safety actions
    • write lessons learnt

How to implement a SMS for a manufacturer ?

  • SMS at corporate level for a manufacturer :
  • Interactions with other SMSs
  • Interactions with other management systems Governance framework,
  • Gap analysis for the 4 SMS components :
    • What is already present
    • What is missing? What is specific to SMS?
    • Safety performance framework.

Manufacturer SMS implementation case study :
Case study based on a fictive aircraft manufacturer.

Perform gap analysis and build the implementation.

Methods :
Lectures, tutorials, case studies
