- Apply general criteria;
- Attend any course relative to IFR procedure design.
Prérequis
- Attendees should feel comfortable to communicate in English. (LEVEL: Intermediate)
- Basic knowledge in mathematics, air navigation services, air traffic management, airport infrastructures are requested.
- To review these basic knowledges, exercises and assessments are provided to trainees before the session, they should be mastered prior to commencing the course.
Description
At ENAC, according to ICAO doc 9906 volume 2, the initial training of IFR procedures designer consists of 4 main courses. Each course is completing each other. This course is considered as the first step of a thorough basic training to design IFR procedures.
The course deals with :

- final approach axis,
- final approach segment,
- intermediate approach segment,
- initial approach segment,
- arrival segment,
- holding,
- missed approach segment,

Side lectures
Complementary information may be provided on PANS-OPS related subjects.
Teaching methods used
Most of the remote classes are provided via the e-learning platform. They are followed by collaborative "all-together-sessions" to reinforce and check the understanding of the presented regulatory elements.
Theoretical courses
Presentaition and explanation of the rule and principles described in ICAO Doc 8168-PANS-OPS Volume II.
Laboratory exercices
Elementary use of the regulation concepts in a simplified environment, conducted to enforce the theoretical input.
Exercices are daily scheduled.
Project
- Throughout the session, design of an RNP NPA procedure :
- To follow the entire design process
- To apply the criteria and indentify how they are connected
Assessment
Self-assessments are available throughout the course.
Several progress tests are carried out to identify the trainee's ability to apply procedure design criteria. At the end of the course, an individual assessment report is provided to each participant.
Assistance
Contact with the referent teacher(s) is provided throughout the course.
Course material : Course and exercise booklets, assessments report and copy of the side-lectures.
